Meridian Medical Group offers several minor surgeries for small, mostly aesthetic medical issues. For any injury requiring more serious attention, we will refer you to another facility.

Minor Surgery

Cuts

Cuts are disinfected and bandaged to ensure optimal healing. Larger cuts may require stitches, which come in several varieties: absorbable and non-absorbable. Absorbable stitches are meant to be broken down by the body over time, while non-absorbable stitches must be removed by a doctor. The type used depends on the severity of the wound.

Headaches

Many things can cause a headache, from a blunt impact to the skull to chronic stress. Our doctor will help you diagnose the most probable cause of your headache, which will suggest the most appropriate treatment. Methods range from simple painkillers like Aspirin or Tylenol to stress management techniques to caring for a head wound, if there is one.

Cysts

There are several options for removing a cyst, including draining it, injecting medicine into it to reduce swelling, or removing it with lasers or direct surgery. The method used depends on the size and location of the cyst, as well as patient preference.

Buried Thorns

In California, there are a lot of prickly plants that may leave their mark if you go walking in a natural area without leg protection. In most cases, it is possible to remove a buried thorn at home by hand, but if it’s in too deep, you may want a professional to do it. Head into Meridian Medical Group and we’ll remove that thorn as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails are a common problem, and usually do not require surgery. However, in severe cases, visiting a doctor is the best course, especially if the nail is infected. Ingrown toenail surgery usually involves local anesthesia, where the foot is numbed during the procedure. There are several methods available, including wedge resection (removing part of the toenail), toenail removal (removing the entire toenail), and matrixectomy (removing the entire nail plus the nail bed).

Burns

The best way to treat a burn is to start immediately. Place the burned area under cool running water, avoid breaking any blisters, apply lotion, and bandage the burn. Consider visiting a doctor if the burn is failing to heal, or if it leaves scars that you’d like to have removed.

Warts

Warts may look nasty, but they are easy to remove by burning, freezing, laser removal, or direct surgery. The choice often comes down to patient preference.
